". . . The play explores the timeless appeal of a lonely trumpet blowing “My Funny Valentine”—possibly the most beautiful song ever written, and an appropriate opening to a play that is itself a sad, smoky valentine to the seductiveness of jazz. . . an excellent Amy McWilliams. . . Gene’s musician buddies (Scott Graham, Eric Lucas, and Mark Rhea) are a delightful addition. . . Each character has his own unforgettable comedic moments, but Rhea’s turn as an enlightened heroin addict is particularly enjoyable, and Charlotte Akin is loveably brassy as the waitress who plays musical beds with the band members. . .It is sublime."
