Review 4 U review

Lucky for the Keegan Theater to have three outstanding actresses ready and able to take on the roles of  "Agnes of God" as the trio battle wits and wills over what really happened in the murder of the new born baby by the young nun with modern science versus ancient faith being the shields behind which each one fights for her own truth and to protect her own secrets.  Today, with DNA able to detemine parentage, and with the present strained credibility of the Catholic Church, this play seems more incredible. Sheri S. Herren is the cynical Dr. Martha Livingstone, Linda High is the Mother Superior, and Ghillian Porter is Sister Agnes who maybe deceptively sings like an angel.   Susan Marie Rhea directs so that the sprinkles of gentle humor and human compassion comes through.  Interestingly enough, the fictional Agnes was based on a real nun whose similar experiences ended with a verdict of mental illness.  Keegan’s revival of the play offers, as always, the magic of discovering of the truth...if not the answer...in all of the mystery. --reviewed by Celia Sharpe, October 21, 2006
