There’s a delightful musical right in our own backyard called, “Anything Goes,” by the Chalice Theatre being performed at the Unitarian Church at Rt. 50 and George Mason Drive. This is the kind of musical of the 20’s and 30’s that I affectionately say you can check your brains at the door and just enjoy! It’s a Cole Porter hit that has stood the test of time and has a ton of songs like “I Get A Kick Out of You,’ “You’re the Top,” “Easy to Love,” “It’s De-Lovely”---and more. An intergenerational cast of 25 adults and youngsters share the stage—or, in this case, a cruise ship. The ship sails off to England with Billy (Michael Innocenti), who works for Mr. Whitney (Ron Cima), stowing away on the boat. He meets gal pal, Reno (Sarah Schallern) who rekindles some feelings with Billy. However, Billy also meets his old flame, Hope (Samantha Sheahan) who is engaged to the stuffy Lord Evelyn (Billy Erler). Hope realizes she still loves Billy and Lord Evelyn develops an interest in Reno. As a stowaway, Billy has to disguise himself and hide from the boat’s security people. He teams up with a gangster named, Moonface (Peter Vitaliano), who passes himself off as a priest. So much laugh out loud fun! Don’t miss this show on weekends through Mar. 25. “Anything Goes,” in partnership with the Keegan Theatre, is produced by Daniel Lyons, choreographed by Elena Velascom with music direction by Barbara Schelstrate and Michael Carver. Artistic direction is by Keegan’s Mark Rhea. Call the Chalice Theatre for information and tickets to “Anything Goes” at 703-892-0202, ext. 8.
