2005 Mary Goldwater Award Recipients

Theatre Lobby’s 18th annual awards ceremony and reception will take place on Monday, May 16, 2005 at 8 pm at the Woman’s Club of Chevy Chase, 7901 Connecticut Avenue, Chevy Chase Maryland

Background of the Awards

Theatre Lobby was founded in 1950 and produced plays until 1972, when its “carriage house” theater behind St. Matthew’s Cathedral was torn down.  In 1985, after the death of Mary Goldwater, a gifted actor who had been the theater’s major supporter, a trust fund was established to memorialize her generous contributions to Washington theater.  The Mary Goldwater Award recognizes theaters and theater artists who achieve excellence despite limited resources

The Keegan Theatre received a Mary Goldwater Award for their outstanding production of Brian Friels’ Dancing at Lughnasa, performed at Warehouse Theatre in 2000.

Nine awards will be presented this year; the honorees include one theater and eight individuals (five actors, one director and two technical artists). These awards recognize the excellence of the recipients’ work, usually over a period of time, culminating in the most recent theater season.
