The following recordings are suggested as starting points for those who would like to explore the musical world surrounding the characters of Warren Leight’s play. The selections are from jazz artists mentioned specifically in Side Man, from those whose music accompanied the Broadway production, or from musicians the playwright’s father performed with as a sideman. Two non-jazz collections by Elvis Presley and by the do-wop group, The Flamingos, are included to stand-in for the wave of rock music that overturned the sidemen’s world in the mid-1950’s.

All the recordings included below were available for sale through Internet outlets in Spring, 2005. The dates provided are for the CD re-releases or compilations of recordings originally issued on vinyl LP records.
